Born in the rhythms of Burkina Faso and cradled by the tradition of the griots, Adama Bilorou knows how to transform his heritage into a melody of multiple nuances—a musical journey spanning continents and cultures. Drawing inspiration from the sights and sounds of his childhood on the Ivory Coast and his later travels to Italy, France, and the United States, Bilorou has creatively composed his uniquely beautiful score. He is a musician, percussionist, author, and composer endowed with a rare mastery of the djembe and the balafon.
Bilorou brought his talents to the Guggenheim Theatre at Park & Market on January 19, joined by Jermaine Paul on bass and Malachi Johnson on drums. The atmosphere was charged with a sense of unity as attendees, regardless of their cultural backgrounds, found common ground in the universal language of music. The event became a melting pot of emotions as the trio’s performance served as a bridge connecting people from different walks of life.
Thank you to Adama Bilorou, Jermaine Paul, and Malachi Johnson for their unforgettable performance. We look forward to their return to UC San Diego Park & Market!
