All-female Baja California Authors Talk and Concert with Mixe singer María Reyna
UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies is thrilled to bring the first of many Intersecciones at Park & Market beginning with two events from the Instituto de Cultura de Baja California’s festival de octubre en Baja California 2023.
About this event
Enjoy a festival de octubre concert featuring María Reyna, a classical trained soprano from the Mixe region in Oaxaca, México as she shares her culture through the sounds of her language. Reyna sings popular songs and well known classical music translated into Mixe. Join us in experiencing Reyna’s beautiful music during a high level performance where the Mixe language makes this event a most unique experience. The event begins at 2:00 p.m. with presentations by female, Baja California born, authors, Mónica Elizabeth González Rameño and Priscila Rosas Martínez, both recipients of the Arts & Culture Award from the Secretary of Culture in Baja California for their short story “Inevitable” and the novel “Una Peluca Rubia”. They will discuss their works. The presentation will be followed by María Reyna’s concert at 3:00 p.m.

El programa de estudios continuos de la Universidad de California San Diego, UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies se emociona en traer el primero de muchos eventos que formarán parte de la serie Intersecciones en Park & Market. La serie comenzará con dos eventos del festival de octubre 2023 presentado por el Instituto de Cultura de Baja California.

Disfruta de un concierto único con la cantante soprano mexicana María Reyna, conocida como “La Soprano Mixe” de Oaxaca, México. Reyna, a quién se le conoce por sus canciones populares y música clásica traducida a su idioma, compartirá su cultura a través de los sonidos de su lenguaje durante una tarde llena de eventos culturales. El evento iniciará a las 2:00 p.m. con la presentación de las autoras Mónica Elizabeth González Rameño y Priscila Rosas Martínez, ganadoras del Premio Estatal de Literatura 2022 otorgado por la Secretaría de Cultura de Baja California por sus libros “Inevitable” y “Una Peluca Rubia” y culminará con el concierto de María Reyna a las 3:00 p.m.
