Intersections at Park & Market Presents 6 and 88 Ivories: World Renowned Pianists Joshua White, Tina Chong, and Irving Flores

Join UC San Diego for the new Intersections Concert series at Park & Market in The Guggenheim Theatre. This concert features live performances by Joshua White, Irving Flores, Tina Chong and is emceed by Yale Strom. The pianists will perform distinctive works with diverse approaches to how they play the music. With Flores’s focus being on Latin jazz and Chong’s on classical while White’s will be a combination of jazz from the 1960s to the present time.

Joshua White – Joshua White is one of the music scene’s most creative and technically accomplished pianists. Praised by legendary musicians like Herbie Hancock as having “immense talent” and lauded for his “daring and courageous approach to improvisation … on the cutting edge of innovation”, Joshua has distinguished himself as a formidable leader of distinct voice among his peers.

Irving Flores – Irving Flores is an accomplished pianist, composer, arranger and music producer. He has performed with Bill Watrous, Charles McPhersonPoncho Sanches, and others. His music arrangements include a “Tribute to Frank Sinatra”, performed by the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, an arrangement for strings for Luis Miguel, and an orchestral arrangement for The San Diego Symphony.

Tina Chong – Hailed as “… a deity of elegance” by the New Brunswick Beacon, Dr. Tina Chong is an international award-winning pianist and sought-after teaching artist in North America. A native of Banff, Canada, Tina has been described as, “…mature and yet fresh, imbued with tradition and yet inhabited by individuality, the marks of an artist” (The Herald Times).

Hosted by UC San Diego and New York-based violinist Yale Strom, one of the world’s leading ethnographer-artists of klezmer and Romani music and history.
